Living in Florida means the beach is never far—just a short drive away, always waiting with its endless horizon and salty breeze. And yet, somehow, life gets in the way. The days fill up, weeks slip by, and before you know it, the sand between your toes is nothing more than a distant memory.
But then, when you finally make time for a beach day again, you cannot believe how you stayed away so long. The ocean breeze tousles my hair, the warm sand molds beneath my feet, and the rhythmic crash of the waves drowns out the noise of everyday life. Worries seem to scatter with the tide, my face basks in the sun to catch some of its glow. Here at the beach, I am grounded in the moment, in myself, by the elements that surround me.
There is no better place to celebrate turning 40 than right here, where time slows and life feels infinite. A milestone like this deserves more than a passing moment—it calls for something meaningful, something that brings together the people who accompany me on my journey. The beach, with its endless horizon and unwavering presence, feels like the perfect place to let go, to embrace what comes, and to welcome the years ahead with open arms. With the waves as our soundtrack and the sky shifting into a golden masterpiece, I couldn’t imagine a better way to honor this new chapter of life.
Obviously, I can’t just show up with a few plastic beach chairs and call it a celebration. If I was going to mark this milestone properly, it had to make it special—something beautiful, intimate, and different. So I went on a hunt for the truly unique experience - and found it in a small company that creates dreamy boho picnics right on the sand. Low wooden tables adorned with delicate florals, woven carpets, plush cushions in earthy tones, and twinkling fairy lights turning the beach into a scene straight out of a magazine. It is the perfect setup for celebration that blends seamlessly with the natural beauty of the beach while adding just the right touch of magic.
And so, we are there—our toes buried in the warm sand, coconuts in hand, celebrating this big milestone with friends that walked part of this journey with me. The sweetness of the fruits set up on the table melts in my mouth. Followed by charcuterie boards that are overflowing with an array of cheeses, and cured meats, a feast as indulgent as the moment itself. The sun dips lower, painting the sky in hues of pink and gold, as we clink glasses, soaking in the beauty of the evening and the company of those who matter most. This is what turning 40 should feel like—joyful, carefree, and wrapped in the warmth of togetherness.
There is something about the vastness of the sea that makes the world feel simpler, as if nothing exists beyond this stretch of sun-drenched coastline. I breathe deeply, tasting the salt in the air, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin as I say good-bye to my 30s. As darkness settles in, the world slows. The flickering glow of candlelight and string lights casts a soft shimmer across the sand, laughter turns into hushed conversations, and the ocean hums its steady lullaby. The moment is magical—filled with reflection, gratitude, and the quiet excitement of what’s to come. And as I sit there, wrapped in the night’s gentle embrace, I know I’m ready for the next chapter.
Ready to head out for a catered picnic on the beach yourself?
WHERE: Any beach really. I went to North Beach Park in Pompano Beach, FL, but you can pick any beach in Southeast Florida that is closest to you. HOW: I went with Boho Picnics for the setup. There are a few providers, just google boho beach picnic. They provide charcuterie options as well. We did order our catering from Whole Foods - super yummie and good food!
